Ranvir Bassi - 2▲ZERO▲1▲2

Friends and longtime followers will remember that I like to feature strange, unique and experimental sounds on the weekend (among the usual fare, no compromises) to showcase musicians that are breaking the mold while remaining approachable (read: no noise for the sake of noise).

Ranvir Bassi (UK) has undertaken quite an ambitious project, one that sets to challenge even the most workhorse of producers: compose a 100% original song for each and every day of 2012, no excuses, backsies, wavering or faltering. No loops or samples, either.

Well, it's only been a couple of weeks, but he has stayed true to his goal thus far, updating his bandcamp album daily with a unique track. It's been an interesting journey to observe, to say the least. The tracks are explorative and fairly hit-or-miss, but watching this unfold really does underline the fact that Mr. Bassi really, truly has a love affair with sound.

All of the tracks that he's creating/created are available for free download, if any of them end up tickling your fancy.

Hopefully the player will update itself automatically, but either way we'll revisit this at a later date to see how he has progressed and if he can keep the heat up all the way through 2012.

I did some searching and this was the only interesting "song a day" albums that I came across (that hadn't already given up or faded out). Did I miss one that you're following / enjoying? Email me!

  9. Are you trying to piss me off today? Out of key children playing with a standard keyboard on off beats at annoyingly sharp tones. Skipped the first one after 2:30, and still thinking about skipping the rest based on that much. I forgot that 2 was playing that's about all that needs be said. 3 reminded me that it was playing, but in a good way. Skip. 4, skip. 5 Nice beat, interesting half understood vocals I'm just waiting for this dude to annoy me though. 6 bugged me for some reason, and that's where I quit.

  12. that is quite the challenge, will be interesting to see if he pulls it off...it is like writing...you do it every day knowing some days it just wont be good but you got to get through it to get to the good stuff...

  13. The closest thing I can compare this to as a writer is a story a day, which to me seems like an insane challenge. I can't believe he's already been up to the task. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on this. He's got some real keepers in there.
